Quote by Governor Jared Polis: "75% of all eligible Coloradans age 12 and up have received at least one dose of the free, lifesaving vaccine. we need to get more Coloradans vaccinated in order to effectively beat this virus so it’s clear we’re not out of the woods yet and what’s preventing us from getting back to the Colorado we love is a percentage of Coloradans still hesitant about getting the effective vaccine. We can’t be hesitant any longer, get the shot today and do your part to protect yourself and your family."

20 years ago, Americans started our day like any other only to find our worlds shattered by mid-morning as the terrorist attacks of 9/11 played out. We remember and mourn those we lost in New York City, in a field in Pennsylvania, and at the Pentagon.

Elijah McClain’s death was a tragedy and my thoughts are with his mother, father, friends, and family today. This innocent young man should be here today. I thank Phil Weiser and the members of the Grand Jury for their work to hold those responsible accountable.

I have suggested alternative approaches for wild horse management to in person and in writing several times, and now as the Sand Wash wild horse roundup continues to near, I am asking to delay the roundup to explore more humane alternatives.

Dear Secretary Haaland and BLM Deputy Director Culver,
I appreciate the time you’ve taken to discuss the issue of wild horse management with me. I
know that you both share my concern for the health and well-being of these beloved animals. I
have been encouraged by our conversations and the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM)
openness to work with the state of Colorado to identify and evaluate more humane means of
managing Colorado’s Wild Horse herds. However, I remain extremely concerned with the
historic scale and condensed time period of the BLM’s proposed round-ups at Sand Wash Basin.
I believe that, through Colorado’s unique position as a state with a long history of innovation and
care for our public lands and wildlife, we can work more collaboratively with the BLM to
effectuate more scientific and humane outcomes to herd management. Sand Wash Basin is
scheduled to lose over half its current native population beginning on September 1st, and I urge
you to temporarily freeze any plann
condensed nature of this roundup threatens to strain the resources amongst the volunteer and
support communities compared to a more coordinated and longer duration strategy.
The broad sweeping impacts of the drought, and the impacts to the health of the herd, and the
broader landscape are critical variables. There is great value in ensuring that the understanding of
these impacts is well known, contextualized and relies on well-rooted data and analysis. At this
point, I’ve heard from experts who disagree with the BLM assessment, and it is my hope that a
better dialogue and more solid study into the health of the herd, and the status of the ecosystem
in the herd management area will yield better and more targeted interventions. In order to collect
better data, conduct more rigorous scientific study, and develop a more humane solution that can
involve better state-federal collaboration, requires a slower and more thoughtful approach to the
Sand Wash Herd.
I am fully aware that the Wild H
