Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s Tweets

We know that Michiganders want us to pass relief for high inflation, continue to find ways to lower costs, attract more businesses, make investments in education, and yes, keep fixing those damn roads! We have a lot of work ahead of us. Let’s keep our foot on the accelerator.

Last year, I called on to remove restrictions on safe and effective abortion medication, mifepristone. Today, it's getting done.   What does this mean? Medication abortion will be available at pharmacies with a prescription. A great step forward for reproductive freedom.

Abortion pills can soon be purchased at local U.S. pharmacies with a prescription, the FDA said Tuesday, a move that could greatly expand access. nyti.ms/3Gci97P

How do you know a Michigander? Well, there are a few telltale signs. Like showing off our hometown with pride by pointing to our hands…or mittens. 👀

Michiganders are tough and never shy away from hard work. We’re competitive. Even if you count us out, look down on us, or fly over us, I promise you: we will defy your expectations. Over the next 4 years we will dig deep and get things done. It’s what Michiganders do.

Today is a day of reflection and recommitment. We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to make important things happen across Michigan. We can go further. We can deliver more. We can make life easier for those struggling to get by. We can make a difference for decades.

Our task is clear: focus on the fundamentals, work together, and get things done. If we reach across the aisle, bring people together, and focus on solving problems, we can make Michigan a place where all people can envision a great future.

Take it from Michigander and that guy in that movie, Tim Meadows. We know that Michigan is a special place, and we want to make it better for Michiganders today and those to come in the decades ahead.

If you’ve got that underdog spirit, your future is in Michigan. Those of us who are lucky enough to be Michiganders know that. Together, we’re going to let people know what we’re building here. We’re putting the world on notice.

Over the last four years, our state has shown that we can come together to tackle the toughest challenges, perhaps the toughest in our lifetimes. I'm more confident than ever that our state’s future is bright because of the tough, hardworking people who call this place home.

Since I took office, I've signed over 1,000 bipartisan bills and delivered 4 balanced budgets. Our work across the aisle on economic development has helped us bring home supply chains of cars, chips, and clean energy. I will continue working with anyone to move Michigan forward.

While I’m proud of the progress we’ve made, I know there is a lot of work to do. I'm excited to continue working to move Michigan forward and build a state we can be proud to pass on to our kids. I can’t wait to see what we’ll accomplish in 2023.

A college education is a great path for many, but it's not a path for every person. You can make a damn good living as a welder, plumber, or electrician. When we provide paths to skills training and good-paying jobs in skilled trades, we build a strong workforce for the future.

As part of our continued work to make our communities safer, Operation Safe Neighborhoods has taken 254 illegal guns off the street. We must continue working with law enforcement to bring down crime and prevent gun violence.

Michiganders who serve in uniform sacrifice precious time with their families during the holiday season to keep us safe. As we gather with loved ones, I encourage every Michigander to reflect on and honor our service members and their families and pray for their safe return home.

After working for a lifetime, Michiganders deserve to keep their hard earned money. My plan to repeal the retirement tax will save half a million households with pensions an average of $1000 a year. Let’s get it done.

I'm signing my 1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣th bipartisan bill, a milestone made possible by working with anyone to get things done. The bill will strengthen Michigan Reconnect and put more Michiganders on a tuition-free pathway. What a great day to reflect on all we accomplished by working together!

This season, we’re extending a program to lower home heating costs for working families and keep money in Michiganders’ pockets, where it belongs. As we enter colder months, these dollars will help Michigan families upgrade their homes and residences to save money.

First, stay indoors if possible. If you must go out: Wear layers to prevent loss of body heat and cover your mouth to protect your lungs. Keep fuel tank near full to prevent freezing and pack an emergency supply kit with essentials like salt, a shovel, food, and blankets.
