The state can't run a deficit, therefore it needs reserves for economic downturns and natural disasters. Doesn't your family set aside an emergency fund?

Core claim is can't run a deficit. By the figures presented, however, there isn't one and taxation has outperformed spending. If this is the case, why not return the overage?

That's half the claim. The other half is therefor it needs a surplus to build reserve funds during economic expansions, so that it doesn't have to drastically raise taxes or cut spending during an economic contraction. Thus it can steadily invest in infrastructure and education.

We are one of the best states to live in, keep our well funded public services so it stays that way.

If we already have "well funded public services" and still have a large surplus, our taxes are too high. #taxreformnow

You need a surplus to build reserves during expansions so you can maintain services through a contraction. If you low taxes you should move to Mississipi.

Ahh, the expected response: if you don't like it, move. Well if you like high taxes, you should move to Finland.

I'm good here, so are the majority of people who voted for this. I also don't feel like learning Finnish. You also don't address the first part of my argument. What's wrong with Mississippi? They have really low taxes.

There can be a happy medium. It doesn't have to be outrageous taxes or no taxes. There is an area in the middle. We are top 5 highest taxed states....what's wrong with the middle of the pack?

Will of the majority says we're fine. We're a top 10 state to live in despite the weather. MN services would have to fall below middle of the pack to get to middle of the pack on taxes. We are a northern state with relatively low population density.
