Here in NYC, the shelters have become havens for drug use with no onsite treatment. People in shelters could use treatment on site, as opposed to having to travel all across the city to outpatient service providers. Doing this will save the many lives lost in shelters.
New Yorkers struggling with addiction should have access to the medication assisted treatment they need — this includes those in our criminal justice system. Today, I’m announcing $5 million in funding to help those in jail treat their addiction & live healthier lives.

Just because they’re not taking drugs while incarcerated doesn’t mean that they don’t suffer from addiction & won’t pick up again once they’re released. Treatment is necessary while they’re there. I rec’d treatment 34 yrs ago & have been sober ever since.
