We are also awarding two contracts toward clean, renewable power in NYC:
a 174-mile transmission project extending from Delaware County to the Rainey substation in Queens.
a 339-mile transmission project extending from the Quebec Province in Canada to Astoria, Queens.
These historic renewable energy projects will create 10,000 good-paying jobs throughout the state and will help NYC retire fossil fuel plants once and for all, including the facility located in Astoria, Queens known as “Asthma Alley.”
Developers will invest nearly $460M in community benefit funds, which is extremely significant for NYC, our state, and the planet. These are more than power lines. They're lifelines delivering cleaner air, green electricity, and jobs for our underserved communities.
Together with local partners, we'll deliver cleaner, healthier air, green & resilient electricity, and more jobs for people in underserved communities. After all, collaboration is key to tackling the climate crisis.
