On the first day of #ClimateWeek 2021, I'm pleased to announce
major steps to accelerate the transition to a cleaner, greener future.
Here in New York, we aren't content to lead the nation. We want to lead the globe. That means setting ambitious goals.

We are also awarding two contracts toward clean, renewable power in NYC:
a 174-mile transmission project extending from Delaware County to the Rainey substation in Queens.
a 339-mile transmission project extending from the Quebec Province in Canada to Astoria, Queens.Show this thread -
These historic renewable energy projects will create 10,000 good-paying jobs throughout the state and will help NYC retire fossil fuel plants once and for all, including the facility located in Astoria, Queens known as “Asthma Alley.”

This is exciting news, but I am concerned about where solar farms will be built. Hopefully it'll be done smartly, utilizing space that's already free instead of destroying more natural areas
