We know school closures impact families. But we must take the difficult steps necessary to slow the spread of COVID-19. I have asked schools to continue providing services for students who rely on school meals or experience homelessness.
Closing schools can have an impact on staff at hospitals, health care facilities and other critical services. To mitigate this, I have asked school superintendents to provide free childcare to families of medical professionals and first responders.
I am deeply grateful to the people of Washington state for their calm, pragmatic response to the COVID-19 outbreak. We will continue doing everything in our power to keep you safe and healthy.

Are we getting additional testing, respiratory equipment, medical respirators and supplies? We are a small circumference with likely thousands of cases that will overwhelm hospitals here shortly. Do we have resources to slow it down? It is scary
