His brother was a civilian kidnapped in Laos by pro-Vietnamese Laotian guerillas, because they thought he was a spy. He didn't serve in the military, although he was considered a prisoner of war by the US due to the circumstances of his kidnapping.

I didn't know. Thank you and your family for your brother's sacrifice.

This doesn’t make his brother’s death any less of a sacrifice. The North Vietnamese were our enemy at the time. Torturing and killing unarmed Americans traveling privately is an act of war. And a war crime.

This breaks my heart. I am so sorry that Trump’s vile, disgusting words have ripped this raw pain open for you once again.

We all knew people in Vietnam that didn’t come home to their families Howard. I still miss them and one was my cousin. We’ve known for years what Trump is about, he ain’t getting out of this one.

Your brother Charlie was one of my best friends in Chapel Hill 1968-73. We were in the same dorm. May his memory be blessed. (He was political to the end — I saw his 1974 absentee request asking ballot be sent c/o a friend in Kathmandu, but he never made it there.)
-
I wrote to him at the Kathmandu address — I was at the Orange Co Board of Election July 1974 writing letters to voters. I read Charlie’s handwritten absentee ballot request. /2
