@Gothamist Thank you for the grammatically and legally correct headline. The driver hit her, not the car. Too many news sources phrase it passively—“Car hits pedestrian”— thereby removing responsibility from the perpetrator.

This beleaguered family has my sympathy for its great and irreplaceable losses. However, I am not sure that such news of terrible personal loss is appropriate for a brief headline or tweet -- which can be shallow and trivializing... The original event remains shocking.
