Cyclists don't follow traffic laws and are not held accountable. I've nearly been killed/knocked over 4 times as a pedestrian on the sidewalk or crossing st. (from racing bikes going wrong way, running lights). I'm a NYr aware of my environment. Bikes should be tagged like cars.

Cars are tagged like cars and that doesn't seem to curtail the toxic car culture of wanton wrecklessness that kills and maims tens of thousands annually, not to mention the stress on the environment, public infrastructure & health.
-
Cars can really get out of line too. It's not the bikes or cars it's the poor drivers. Obey the laws, or get off the road right? Easier said then done...but most drivers know they can't drive the wrong way up an ave. or hit someone -- without getting caught.
-
What about the pandemic of speeding cars? Illegal u-turns? Cars going through stop signs and red lights? Only reason cars and trucks do not ride on sidewalks or go the wrong way that much, is because they cannot fit!
-
It's shameful that the anti bike crowd will try to find an equivalence of motorist and cyclist capacity to harm - 10 dead in

A motorized vehicle doesn't belong in a bike lane, as in the photo. E-bikes are vehicles which, at the fast speeds they are operated--on sidewalks, speedily, and against traffic--can maim and kill, making life on the street frightening for pedestrians and cyclists alike.
-
I don’t agree, as a cyclist (who doesn’t own an e-bike!) people have to be aware of their surroundings, and e-bikes generally don’t go faster than 20. We should want e-bikes as an option and allowing them in bike lanes will help that. Also no evidence of e-bikes causing injuries
-
Until cyclists are held accountable for safe biking in general, even going 20 many run people over and don't often care. Cars are hideous in the city too but they have tags...there is accountability for breaking the laws.
-
Where do you see legal accountability from drivers? You new in town?
-
Tags. There are cameras now that ticket you and if you don't pay the ticket or show up in court there's accountability. Plus a car can't bike away after it hits a pedestrian (usually). Yeah new, since 1996.
-
A very small number, dictated by NYS statute, of red-light cameras, but any tickets go to the car owner, never the driver, so accountability is limited. There are still lots of "hit and runs" because hitting a person doesn't disable a car. But I believe in licensing cyclists.

European cities have embraced the e-Bike. We are way behind. Likely the people who criticize e-cyclists are the same ones who count on them for delivery in weather they themselves won't brave. A $40 base pay, dependent on tips, paying $1400 for each bike. An easy mark the mayor.
