I can think of more than a dozen publications I’d trade in to keep
@villagevoice alive

It died years ago. This is the end of the Body Double. It was the place where I learned about Rock&Roll, Leftist Politics, Israel, Government, found my first apartment, sold my Bass & Amp, arranged various trysts...it was the best media outlet Leftist City Dweller ever had. RIP.

Like all the other great institutions in NYC that are dissipating. I miss the old New York. I don’t recognize this suburb anymore.
-
I know exactly what you mean. I sure miss it too. The grittiness is gone replaced by chain restaurants and the “types” that frequent said establishments.

Between this and Tower Records, what’s left?

A photographic work by Jorge Colombo for a cover of The Village Voice, in 2000. RIP for an iconic newspaper.pic.twitter.com/Exhn5pOXtt

Let the past die. New York is no longer a village it’s an extended hotel for people who have no interest in partaking of local culture. A shame but thems the ropes
-
Very little local culture.

When I was a teenager, I was always sad to leave the city but one of my favorite things was reading the Voice on the train on my way home. I would save all the live music listings and plan the shows I would hope to attend, and daydream about the rest. RIP
