Advanced attacks happen. Not very often. Basic attacks in basic flaws absolutely can and will happen.

Something InfoSec as an industry continues to perhaps suck at is stripping back the sexy advanced stuff and going back to boring stuff.

Fun thing is the boring basic stuff, if tackled, fixes a majority of advanced scenarios too. But it's in an industry with different focus.
