Soooo many every day systems and processes rely on SSNs. Deprecating and replacing them would likely be a far bigger ordeal than even Y2K.

IPv6 is here, we use it every day.
I'd say a majority of orgs are IPv4, with crap firewalls etc.

Yeah, but that's going to change, and sooner than you think: https://community.infoblox.com/t5/IPv6-CoE-Blog/IPv6-is-Accelerating-as-IPv4-is-Nearing-its-Peak/ba-p/7992 …. IPv6 is currently >20% of traffic and growing.
