Infected PCs only spread for under an hour before shutting down, never to return. But it was designed for Windows AD environments.
Re Petya, don't judge impact by number of infected PCs. It was a huge IMPACT event, designed with limited spread.

It was never designed to hit home PCs etc. It was incredibly destructive - by design. Lateral movement evil genius.
