Oh dear. Last I heard it takes a year or two to get stuff back in UK, but that was a few decades ago.

From what I saw at local forensics unit, it pretty much depends on the case. Normally returned after they file the report.

UK police are often obstructive, to get property back when there is no case you have to go to Prof Standards,Chief Con or Magistrates Court.

That is if dishonest officers don't steal it. Quite a few got caught selling property on eBay after stealing during house searches in NW UK.
