Re InfoSec recruiting - not every company is equal. As a candidate you need to do what works for you, which can include picking corps wisely
Not having CISSP will bite me in the arse one day. But there's also some employers who really look for talent (which is a painful process).

That really depends on the position you want. CISSP isn't really an engineering cert, but many corps often pair the wrong certs to any job

The better question is: do you want to work for a corp where they can't tell that difference?
