The Natasha Tynes situation is a reminder that there are plenty of scumbags in minority communities that could give a shit about anyone but themselves. "Own voices" and "diversity" good enough to sell them books, but a hard-working black woman eating on a train is unforgivable?

Few things piss me off as much as a person who gets off on screwing folks trying to hustle and live their goddamn lives.

And seriously, if you haven't watched Sorry To Bother You, go do that. Few works of fiction explain the dynamics of pitting minorities against each other through providing entrance to a chosen few in return for their complicity in the power structure as well as that movie does.

Clarification- she probably was fine with the woman eating. It's when she dared talked back to her that she decided a twitter whine was her only option.

Nah, she ran up on the lady complaining about the eating for no good reason, which earned her the fantastic advice to mind her own goddamn business. Then she tagged the lady's employer to ensure she was fired.

I'm feeling so gross that I actually took the time to read her book. I thought her protag was intentionally unlikeable, but now I'm not so sure...

That's a shame. Folks without empathy consistently fail to recognize their actions hit people in so many different ways. All that trouble to make herself feel more powerful than someone for no good reason.

Oh damn. This is when I’m supposed to shill something, right? Here’s a list of diverse writers in the crime fiction genre. Buy their books (I’m on there too, so buy mine if you want). sistersincrime.org/page/FrankiesL

Fortunately, this is a rare case where it seems her literary career just imploded around her as a result.
