Never had to before - now that's the only way it shows up and keeps breaking due to the connection and forces me to use data. That was the point of download only wasn't it?

That makes sense. But adding music to the library will not let you play it offline. You can download it so you can play it offline. Here's more info: https://goo.gl/zK3fhX . Let us know if you have questions.
