am...am i missing something? when i go to @GooglePlayMusic on my phone I only get an artists radio station and some similar artists. No albums or songs to purchase download. I have to go get it on my computer.
Hmm, can you check if you’re running the latest version of the app and your phone's OS? Also, try refreshing your music library, click on the Menu icon > Settings > Refresh. Keep us posted.

nothing for either. I thought I caught a glimpse of a 'shop' option when i was looking at a different artist but it didn't stay and i can't find it. More popular artists include video links. uh...do you have to be subscribed to Play Music to purchase on phone?

That's odd – you should be able to purchase songs in your phone or via the web app with or w/out a subscription. Mind sharing the error you see to the right team so they can identify & fix it? Just tap/click the ☰ icon > Help & Feedback. Screenshots will also help. Thanks!
