Why is the button looking like this sometimes, when my shuffle play plays the same 10 songs over & again with 500 to choose from?
& others not, when shuffle play seems ok
We'd like to help. Have you tried refreshing your music library with these steps: Google Play Music > Menu > Settings > Refresh > Restart device? Also, make sure that you're running the latest version of Play Music app. Keep us posted.

Yes & even uninstalling & reinstalling... Sometimes the your app in the list looks like picture 1. A Raised button, whereupon the app works improperly And 2. Not a raised button when the app works wellpic.twitter.com/LGsUOTiRLq
