Great article, ty. 9 years ago moved from London to Yorkshire. In 5 years I turned from very pro-EU to voting leave. It wasn't an easy journey. I think at the heart of it for me, was a rediscovery of a love for this country and its people. Maybe they're just nicer oop North

All sound stuff Matthew but as you've argued elsewhere, this sentiment had been growing for a long time. Yet 'the EU' did not figure in top 10 of 'concerns' til around 2015 or so. Now a convenient scapegoat / whipping boy. Surely the concerns of leavers could've been addressed 1/

As you say, the main spheres of influence disapprove of Brexit and therefore continue to misrepresent Leavers. More importantly, their disapproval has mutated into hostility and a perverse desire for failure. We have institutionalised sabotage.

Arguments like ‘1/3 voted for x therefore y must not hold’ and ‘BAME MPs voted for x so it reflects the rest of them’ are a bit weak.

Absolutely. Reasons quite possibly complex, eg people of colour from Asia could think EU disadvantaged their own possibilities of migration to UK
