Is it a sin for a Christian to get a tattoo?

Leviticus 19:28, which says,”You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the Lord.”

Exactly. You cannot pick and choose certain O. T. laws and claim we are still bound by them without also claiming we are still bound by the rest of them (sacrifices, building a parapet around your roof etc.)

But isn’t this the case for most churches that profess to be Christians? From a practical manner, the Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed, so sacrifices would be a mute point.

No. This is a matter of Christian Ethics that cannot be explained to you on Twitter. The moral law (Decalogue) still applies and has not been nullified by the Law of Christ. But we are no longer bound by other aspects of the Mosaic Law dealing with diet and other matters.

There are 613 Mitzvot (Commandments) in Torah. The majority of Christians are keeping about 203-275 of YHWH’s Commandments. Approx 221 Commandments are applicable only to the Temple, and most of these would apply to Jews only. Christians therefore are keeping 66 to 80% of Torah.

We are under the law of messiah not Moses. The law of messiah is to fulfill the two greatest commandments which in turn fulfills the spirit of the mosaic law.

Y’shua and his disciples were Torah observant. Y’shua gave us no new commandments. The two greatest commandments; love of YHWH and neighbor are foundational in Torah. Y’shua is the living Torah, the right arm of YHWH, and appears in Genesis Ch. 1, B’resheet. Alef Tav.

Didn’t you read how Paul rebuked Peter for acting hypocritical regarding circumcision? Gentiles are not required to observe Moses to be disciples of Christ. That would erect the fence separating Jews and gentiles all over again! Christ broke down that barrier

Are you saying gentiles have to become Jewish proselytes in order to be disciples of Christ???

No. Observe in Acts the requirements set forth by the Apostles in the grafting in of gentiles into their congregations. Jeremiah 31:31-34 foretells of ‘Torah written upon the heart’ for all the elect. There is no respecter of persons in the Kingdom along bloodlines.

Right under the New covenant. As per the covenant under Moses you had to be circumcised and do all the other observances to be considered a Jew but now that has changed. Also under the law there is no mention of a priest coming from Judah only being a son of Aaron qualifies you

All these changes yet you say the covenant of Moses is still in effect. The covenant spoken in Jeremiah replaces the covenant made with Moses

To be a disciple of Yeshua, you must ‘follow him’., as did the Apostles before and after his crucification. They were all Torah observant. Be a Berean and do your investigation.
