During the time Yeshua lived, there was a lot of influence of the Rabbis through oral laws and traditions and they were "making void the commandments of God through traditions of men" and He corrected A LOT of that.

And to your comments about the disciples learning more, absolutely as the mystery of the gospel was revealed to Paul regarding the Gentiles.

The whole gospel includes the kingdom. The mystery part had to do with messiah dying first which the Jews had trouble understanding and Paul explained beautifully.

Throughout Jesus ministry you see the small implications of the new arrangement replacing the old also in the account when he says that nothing that enters a man defiles him. Putting to an end the Dietary laws

He was actually talking about the ritual handwashing and not food. If He abolished the dietary laws, that makes Him a liar (Matt 5:17-20)
