The adversarial culture in philosophy does not serve the truth. Very happy to have this piece featured by Aeon

This is cool, I like the idea of focusing on the structure of questions/ setting questions as an exercise. I also think your claim ‘In a nutshell, most questions arise because we make a presupposition or have an expectation that the text does not meet’ is really helpful!

I think this’s an excellent approach. Relatedly, I regularly get students to try to identify the question the philosopher/text is trying to answer. Esp., w’ historical texts it helps w’ plausibility & understanding, also pushes against arguments as adversarial to possible answer.

I look so calm here but I was barely coping. It took all my willpower not to shake like a leaf. The terror of performance loomed over every aspect of my life. I dropped off the classical track shortly after this photo. I didn’t kick the anxiety & start my career until 10yrs later

The college received your department’s hiring recommendation. Unfortunately, the department got it wrong so we need you to vote again. Don’t think about what’s best from a disciplinary perspective, think about what the college would want.

Today my son was cornered at school by kids who wanted to “test” him for just because he is half-Chinese. They chased him. Scared him. And made him cry. I was the same age when I was bullied for being Pakistani. It’s 2020. I thought things had changed by now... 💔
