You are aware that this directly contradicts the date we have. Standard has been really rough the last few years but, magic has continued to grow year over year. Tournament play continues to be a relatively small part of the game

Magic "sales" have increased year over year

Yes, sales. Revenue. Number of players. Number of active players. Number of tournament players. Total dollar value of singles sold. If you're struggling on magic sales, it's on you.

What's the more likely scenario here: 1. I have a significant sample size from fellow retailers / multiple distributors over a number of years informing my opinion. 2. I'm "just bad at it" and making baseless claims online so that I can be called out by the first random bro?

Well, I suppose this is gone be long. 1) your sample size is smaller than the publicly available data we are able to collect from hasbro. I'd suggest buying a share and attending the quarterly calls if you're serious about learning. 2) If sales are up everywhere but your 1/x

2/x Shop then there's a pretty good chance it's on you. How do I know? 3) I spent years building a business helping game stores become profitable. See, most shops are opened by people who love games but know nothing about business. They fail to understand the basic

3/x Fundamentals of how to run a business. They blamed WotC, GW, the locals or other shops. Nearly always if they were better at building a loyal community, their sales (like most shops) would increase. So, I'm pretty sure it's option one. As I made a living off fixing that.

PS: for a moment let's assume you asked every owner you know. That's still unlikely to be a relevant sample size when you consider the number of shops that sell MTG. Get good data if you want correct conclusions

For reference: I am a manager at a chain with four stores that's been around for 38 years. The last 20 of which I have access to Magic sales data. We partner with all five of the major distributors and I know my reps well enough to have honest conversations about releases.

I'm also a part of multiple retailer groups that feature a "how's this set selling" thread with every release... sampling hundreds of stores across the country every time. I've been in retail for twenty years and understand micro and macro sales trends, but it's probably just me

And yet, you're struggling (or complaining about it getting worse) when the data makes it clear that overall the market is strong. At the end of the day either hasbro is committing fraud on enron's level or, you're wrong.

Never said anything about struggling, you're inferring that. I'm done discussing this with you, you're taking one data source as proof that Magic is in one place when that data can coexist with hundreds of stores saying that Magic is in an entirely different place.
