I've been comparing standard to flag football. People are fine with Standard when it's a smaller rotating sample of modern power level cards, but right now it feels a lot like we're playing flag football when we want to play tackle.

Perfect analogy. Totally agree. We like power cards. And doing unfair things. The last standard I felt that was this powerful was maybe khans w bant company. Even that wasn’t super great. Last great great one w tons of people playing was rtr/inn which was super powerful and fun
Return to Ravnica / Innistrad was easily the high water mark for the last decade. Outside of Cawblade Standard, I'd say they were all pretty solid from Lorwyn / Shards through Theros / Khans. Battle for Zendikar forward was downhill.
