Can anyone explain to me why Bitcoin is important to me if I don't need to launder money, buy drugs online, or get my wealth out of a country that won't let me export / invest internationally?

I think peer to peer transactions are the appeal, with the decentralized blockchain as the routing mechanism, bypassing existing financial networks. No need to give paypal or whatever their 2%. If you skew internationally, this matters more, but 95% of people probably don't care
So we're back to international money laundering and stabilizing corrupted international currencies... got it.

Well, it's still surprisingly hard to make peer to peer payments in Canada. Checks now cost $1 on top of a $4 to $10 monthly fee for the account. Some friction in setting up peer to peer payments through a traditional bank and it's even harder between institutions

I think there's room for the blockchain to matter, but you need to look closely at where it could make a difference. As you've pointed out, there are obvious applications
