Really interested in people's feeling on Modern deck prices. Right now, average cost of twelve most played decks is $790, down from $888 in 2016 and $1015 in 2015. At what (realistic) point would you be happy with average deck cost?

From a player's perspective I agree, but from Wizards perspective Modern cards having value allows them to continue making/selling supplemental products.
Stores will disagree too... can't afford to carry inventory that is strongly declining in price. This crunches availability of singles on a local level, pushing more people online. If stores don't sell singles OR packs... why would they promote the game?

“Strongly declining” is a trap. Adjustments on market values won’t happen overnight; they’ll be foreseeable & gradual. If stores have competitive pricing, they’ll be fine on singles. If stores hold tournaments, they’ll have residual income and make their % as well.

All stores (online and physical) have substantial costs associated with sorting, counting and managing card inventory. Running an online store with 50,000 items is not cheap. The ability of being able to buy any card at will adds to the overall price of singles.

I’m not saying that hidden costs don’t exist. Card prices should take into account the work required to market them.
