Basically has been trading with Pokemon for 1st in the US, currently 2nd, and even Yugioh is pushing up hard right now with it's new rarity system. Globally I'd be surprised if it's even 3rd, so many random games that outsell Magic outside the US (Looking at you Japan!).

Pokemon is the largest media brand in the world. That Magic even weighs in against the Pokemon TCG is pretty amazing in and of itself. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_media_franchises …

Amazingly, Magic makes the list at passing the $4 billion mark. It puts it ahead of Mission Impossible and Strawberry Shortcake, and even with legend of Zelda and The Hunger Games.

Well Yugioh is 11b for just the TCG itself, Pokemon 12b, so Magic comes in at a hard 3rd, if we just count those 3.

Yu-Gi-Oh is through 2011 Pokemon is through 2020 Magic is sporadic through 2018.

Guess my take away would be if WoTC/Hasbro could ever turn Magic into a Franchise it would be tough to beat, without that though it won't ever be top dog.

Given that Hasbro's entire modern business plan is turning things into franchises (or literally inventing toys to build franchises around, like with MLP and Transformers), I'm continually surprised they haven't done better w/ Magic on this front.

1000% agree here, there are so many easy (not necessarily cheap) ways to brand out Magic. Like a Kids Cartoon similar to the old D&D one, have some kids become PW'ers and use popular cards. Something to get kids excited like they are when they see a Zard or Blue Eyes.
