I get the obvious "always have been" but you'd think under scrutiny they'd maybe dial it back a notch... they know there's more cameras on them than ever and they're still making unforced errors like it's going out of style

They don't think they ever do anything wrong and so have nothing to dial back. In the name of, or under cover of, law enforcement and supposedly preserving life and property and the danger that job puts them in, everything is permissible and the system backs them up.
