I don't actually see it resulting in more money for stores. There's nickel and dime players and spenders. Spenders will just buy a box as they do now. Nickel and dime players would just buy a few packs rather than playing in another event resulting in less overall participation
And you "free product" is going to diminish as participation declines. I'm already looking at the next prerelease skeptically because they're releasing Commander decks at the prerelease.
