A love story: My wife and I made the mistake of anthropomorphizing our cars. My wife's car was a 2000 Buick Century that we named Agnes, mine a 2006 Impala we named Gerald. We had these cars for years... made the occasional repairs, but they were reliable.

Both of the cars were bought new by my wife's grandparents and we acquired the cars from them as they were no longer able to use them. Her grandfather worked for GM, so he took a certain pride in the cars. It was easy for us to anthropomorphize them into an elderly couple.

The cars would always break at the same time... we considered them a bonded pair. Recently my wife was gifted a new car by her parents. We tried to find Agnes a good home, but nobody is looking for 2,000 Buicks regardless of how well we took care of her.

We were running out of our 30 day grace period on the insurance, and I didn't want to get into a situation where someone was test driving it and got into an accident, because liability is a weird thing. We sold her to a car lot for the "just take it" price... we felt awful.
