Maybe the way I think about scummy play is the issue. When I think scummy, it’s always an angle shoot that is technically within the rules. For me, this one is beyond just being scummy and is actually cheating.
This was 8+ years ago, not sure if I was parroting what I saw others do, if triggers were handled differently, or if I just misunderstood the rules

8+ years ago, the rules were different on triggers. all triggers had to be announced at the time they went on the stack, visible or not.
