I think the Blind Eternities tear into matter on a metaphysical level, so inanimate objects get through fine like clothes, but a spark “protects” you somehow (described in Agents of Artifice). The zombies counting as “inanimate” is a pretty big stretch imo
The zombies were encased in "Lazothep" so they were more enchanted robots than zombies
