From a hardcore competitive Magic player point of view, when is the last time there was a year of Magic design this flawed? Tolarian Academy era? Cawblade era (doesn't seem as bad to me)?

People are saying Kaladesh, but this year has done things people hate to Vintage and Legacy and Modern and Pauper. It’s incredible.

It’s the opposite. It’s most certainly a bug, not a feature. This year has had: Karn, TGC; Narset; T3feri; Wrenn & 6; Oko; Plague Engineer; Prismatic Vista; Urza; Once UAT; Arcum’s Astro are about 3/4 of the cards that I’ve heard others express they want banned in a format.
