Look. Your Local Game Store isn’t trying to gouge you. They aren’t lying to you. They’re trying to stay in business making razor thin margins and meanwhile offering you a space to gather and play Magic. Demand sets prices and whatever profit they can scrounge keeps the lights on

It blows my mind every time someone complains about pricing anywhere. Don’t buy the product and go somewhere else if you aren’t happy. It’s not a difficult concept.

Problem is that that conflicts with supporting a local space or business where you can play. You need to buy from specific places in this case.

I disagree. You can support your LGS but still purchase elsewhere. In the end, you have to be smart with your money. One could argue playing at an LGS is the best support possible for a LGS.

If noones able to purchase their stocked products then that's profit they aren't making on products they have to supply. Events can only do so much to support them.

True, but there are other ways to move product. I’ve never encountered a LGS that sells MTG routinely, but doesn’t run tournaments. Events often lose $. But people in your store buying the product because of events are huge. No events? No foot traffic A killer for any business

How do events lose money?

Events are usually loss-leaders for stores, we lose 50 cents per player on FNM with $5 buyin, three rounds, pack per win. If you factor in additional labor & increased heating / cooling it's probably $2 loss per player.

Events are big losers for stores almost across the board, small or large. But, that $49 I spent on cards because I went to FNM this weekend? There’s your profit.
