It's curious that War of the Spark was basically a Magic superhero set (that even referenced the endgame) right when Avengers Endgame was releasing and now there's Throne of Eldraine right after Game of Thrones was at peak hype.

This is zeitgeist stuff, correlation rather than causation. The boardgame industry sees similar things coming in waves... Mars, Egypt, Pirates, etc... multiple game companies creating stuff in the same genre unbeknownst to each other.
