Only time I’ve ever done this was release weekend of like shards or w/e had Nicol Bolas planeswalker in it. Opened a foil and non-foil and was ptq’ing the next day so I had a guaranteed way to offload them for max $$$ the next day. At the time iirc it was like $100+ in my pocket
At $100 I can see it... at $17 I cannot, I think in that situation I would've still passed the non-foil
even then, I opened Foil Sword/Goyf, took the Sword, passed the Goyf. Goyfs were like 150 still at the time. Hell I probably should have taken the Goyf on Value (Sword was only like 90 at the time), but I like foils more :P
