Let's talk Japanese War of the Spark. Here's what buying foreign boxes has traditionally looked like for retailers: 1. Buy from Wizards direct 2. Buy from distribution You can cross #1 right off the list as Wizards cut the direct sales channels this last year.

Distribution has 50 stores that order a box each of Japanese, Russian, Korean, Chinese every release so they stock around that number. I express interest to my preferred distributor that I'd like to start getting these boxes of certain languages and they pencil in an increase

So I might only be able to get in on a couple boxes without ramping up my regular order of these products over time. Why wouldn't I? Foreign boxes aren't as novel as they used to be. Stores don't like dealing with the cards and players like being reading complex interactions.

Mediocre sets do even worse in foreign languages as well... the less cards in a set with Eternal appeal a set has, the harder it is to sell Foreign packs... nobody pimps out their Standard decks. I'd still have 33 packs of Ixalan on the shelf if I brought in a Japanese box.

There will likely be a large second wave, after people have blown their loads on Mythic Editions and Modern Horizons so that will be a good time to buy in if this is your heart's desire. This is a massive failure on Wizards' part in getting this product to us.
