strong agree, it's hard to overstate how much impact the awful design run from Shadows though Kalidesh had on the game. All of the stores in my area that couldn't support modern just died.
The people that moved into Modern the last couple years because of bad Standard were a different wave of recruits than those that started around Zendikar.

People who started around Zendikar had a very easy time moving into Modern because they had expensive staples like fetches from Standard. People starting today won't have that. It'll be thousands up front to build decks they'd want to try.

The only time i ever owned a modern deck was after Khans block because i had the fetches from standard
