The last time we saw this was with Duela of the Planeswalkers back around Zendikar. What's this mean for your collection? In about 18-24 months you'll see a significant number of these newly recruited players moving into Modern driving up prices on format staples.

A couple years after that you'll see a fraction of those players that went into Modern going even deeper into Legacy... and eventually a fraction of that fraction into Vintage / Old School etc

I feel a little weird about how well this describes me (started in Origins, went into modern, and just now making inroads into legacy)

I was about a year ahead of Duels, so I made bank buying into Extended, Legacy, & Vintage just ahead of the tidal wave of players progressing into Magic

I can’t even imagine legacy even being a format 5 years down the road tbh the price point is very high now and down the road it will only rise and be out of reach for almost any player that doesn’t make 100k a year

Yeah, it's a subsection of a subsection for sure but I never thought I would have a legacy deck, then two years later I could play 30 different decks was forging ahead into vintage

If these new players end up with high paying jobs since you have to firmly be in the upper middle class ($150K+ in California at aminimum) in order to afford even afford Legacy. More for Vintage.

Legacy has always and will always be "extremely unaffordable", yet somehow people manage to put decks together
