Watched the movie Annihilation last night and really enjoyed it (I know I'm in the minority here)... anyone read the books? Worth a go?

I liked it as well. 87% on Rotten Tomato...I think you just read the wrong sites or listen to the wrong people.

It's at 2.5-3 stars on most plaforms... I loved it though, perfect sci-fi movie

Movies that make dummies think usually get bad reviews

I liked Annihilation, but I wouldn't strictly call it a challenging movie. Certainly less ambiguous or ambitious in its themes than similar works like Stalker. Also, it did review well. Everyone I've talked to says the book is better, very different ending.
