If you ever use the phrase "I prefer to shop local, but..." or "I like to support local business when I can, but..." let me stop you right there. No you don't. Caring about your local economy and small business operators in your community is not something you negotiate.
If you care about supporting small / local businesses, just do it. If you are asking them to price match Amazon what you're really saying is "I want the service and convenience of having this today but I don't care if you're here tomorrow.
"Businesses should adapt to new technology" - you Ok, we have and do. Local / small businesses have adapted by employing YOUR neighbors, supporting YOUR tax base, and providing service / knowledge that is not typically available through online sources.
