I’ve been attending tournaments since I was 14 and not once did my mom or dad attend because they have busy home lives and work. Most kids are in this same situation. Instead of banning unsupervised minors, as a local community, KEEP THEM SAFE, IF YOU SEE SOMETHING WRONG SAY IT

I want to agree with this. very badly But...how? I want to believe people will be better but its truly inside me right now that it just isnt safe at all and the best course of action is prioritizing safety over whether something will kill the scene or not. Idk man its hard

For the record, i had my dad with me for my beginning tournaments and then he stopped coming, and i wouldnt have been able to go to a lot of things if i needed a parent with me. but its just the most logical thing to implement in tbis given climate is it not?

It also negates the fact that there are also people who have been harassed that were over 18, it only solves part of the problem

The best ultimate player was 17 for a lot of the games lifespan. He wouldnt be able to go if these rules were in place, nor would any minor who would want to go to tournaments. Would kill the scene definitely

Bruh, how would you do that without creating rules?

I guarantee 90% of parents do not want to go to local, Tons of minors will never be able to go to a tourney because of this

On the other hand imagine the support parents will give it if we had genuine structure for kids. Instead of smash tournaments being mysterious and suspicious, it would encourage parental involvement, and give it a more professional face.

So what’s the alternative? We’re past “make it safe” “be better” statements. That mind set is basically ignoring the problem, it’s always been said. We need action, I don’t see a way around this. If you have alternative ideas that would be better to talk about.

Maybe have a parent or friend or someone they trust accompany them? Or the others take on the responsibility to look out for the younger ones
