      I started using @GoGriddy because I thought that money could be saved with load shifting and I like that they are "trying" to do something cool on a technical level. However, it's starting to look like you really can't save much (if any) even with load shifting.

      Yes, the bad thing about AS is that—even though AS charges tend to go up and down each day in tandem with wholesale prices—load shifting doesn’t help you avoid high AS charges because Griddy allocates AS charges to members proportionately based on *total* kWh used per day.

      But the good news is, ERCOT is apparently working on a way to get Ancillary Services charges added into the 5 minute price and the settlement price, so you can see them in real time. Downside for Griddy is the price shown of the App price dial will permanently jump about 20%.

      I am charged AS in 15 min increments as I assume Griddy is. Either they cannot figure out how to bill us in 15 min increments (which is possible) or they know it will raise non-conservers bills 50% during price spikes and they are trying to socialize the losses.

      This is an area of improvement we've discovered as a result of the price spikes in August. We receive the Ancillary Services charges as a single line-item on our ERCOT invoice each day. Historically we've always just allocated AS pro-rata by total kWh usage.

          Take dollar amount used daily per account and divide it by the amount billed to Griddy for the day minus AS. Then take that percentage and multiply it by the AS for the day and apply to each account. Viola! Each person is charged for the AS they used correctly.
