For the record, we inherited the name “Dave” on our new rescue dog. I admit it’s a bit strange.

Terrible news about the death of Marvelous Marvin Hagler. At his championship peak, he was Boston’s fifth major sports franchise all by himself.

So sorry to hear that Joe Tait has died. Great announcer, great guy. Cleveland basketball and baseball fans were lucky to have him.

3/2/62 Phila 169 NY 147. Phila: Al Attles 8-for-8. For NY: Richie Guerin 39, Cleveland Buckner 33, Willie Naulls 31. Oh, and Wilt 36-63 FG and inexplicable 28-32 FT. That’s 100, folks. 4124 lucky fans in Hershey, Pa. got to see it.

Sometimes I think Bobby Darin must have spent every day of his last 6 or 7 years on this earth in a recording studio. He was amazingly prolific and may be the most underrated practitioner of the Great American Songbook. He sure came a long way from “Splish Splash.”

Saturday highlight of a long day of college basketball watching: the irreplaceable Bill Raftery referencing Ryne Duren. I can see him hopping over that short Yankee Stadium RF bullpen gate right now. Did you know Raf left St. Cecilia’s of Kearney as the all-time NJ HS scorer?

Cowboys win the Oklahoma Monday morning water cooler bragging rights over the Sooners. If there were still offices and water coolers, that is. This Cunningham kid ain’t too bad. Sooners get another shot Monday night.

Correction time, and I really should know better, having referenced it a trillion times: Wilt’s 100 pt game vs the Knicks at Hershey, PA was on March 2, 1962, not March 5. Sorry.
