My biggest surprise is how hard you seem to be arguing that it's OK to keep flying in a #ClimateEmergency. Frequent flyers' emissions are dominated by their flying, as you know well. It's not about global % of emissions, it's about cultural shift & climate justice.

I’m not arguing for flying. I’m just reporting the actual data on GHG emissions, where they are 1.8%. That’s just the fact. But I agree those who fly a lot, this is one of the biggest things they can do. That’s true also.

Air transport only 2%, I expected it to be more. Is this worldwide?
-
It’s actually 1.8% — and, yes, this is global data. Sometimes people want to add the effects of contrails there too — but those aren’t long lived climate warming agents, and the effects are local. And they aren’t part of the UN climate framework.

1. That Electricity is as big an emitter as Industry as a whole 2. That Animals (5%) and Aviation (2%) are relatively low, yet frequently presented as the only big polluters
-
Yep. Data matters.

Electricity and transportation are the most surprising. Popular narrative is that flying is the worst. Electricity production doesn’t even figure in that narrative.
-
Flying is 1.8%. Some activists like to include non-GHG effects, like contrails, but those are local and not long-lasting.

What time period is this over? 10, 20, 100?
-
It’s the current (2010s) breakdown of annual emissions.
