Glenn Kessler Retweeted Donald J. Trump

Every president hates the news coverage and every president decries leaks. But has another president called the news media "very unpatriotic" and "enemy of the people" for simply trying to find out what is happening in the U.S. government?https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1023646663590797312 …

When the media - driven insane by their Trump Derangement Syndrome - reveals internal deliberations of our government, it truly puts the lives of many, not just journalists, at risk! Very unpatriotic! Freedom of the press also comes with a responsibility to report the news...

A previous president, Teddy Roosevelt, actually gave Lincoln Steffens, an investigative journalist, a signed card urging every federal employee "to tell him the truth" about the running of the government, no matter how unpleasant, and "I will see that you are not hurt"pic.twitter.com/EjHrnhmlb0

The press has become antagonistic and aggressive. After watching the press during the last administration and the kid glove treatment towards Her, I've realized we don't have a press. We have an agenda driven army of elitist writers.

You're dancing like Frederick Astaire. Never before in the history of presidential press has the MSM blatantly attempted to overthrow a duly elected POTUS with aid of Shadow Govt.

And has any US president pointed to the section where the media are and encouraged his crowd to boo them and make menacing remarks? I have never seen it, and I've been following politics since the 50s, plus I'm a media historian.

Serious question: years ago I found a quote attributed to President Wilson, something like "to control the newspapers, flood them with facts." I've not reuncovered the quote, though I try once a year or so. Do you recognize it? i.e., did someone say that?

Well, as Abraham Lincoln said, it's tough to verify quotes online!!! Many quotes were attributed to Wilson, but yours rings no bells. I checked my friend Garson O'Toole (the Quote Investigator) & here are his entries for Wilson: https://quoteinvestigator.com/tag/woodrow-wilson/ …

That's a beautiful site! Thanks for the intro. I have either completely misremembered the quotation or Google has. But I did locate this hint:http://theconversation.com/how-woodrow-wilsons-propaganda-machine-changed-american-journalism-76270 …

I'd hesitate in attributing it only to Wilson. Note that the phrase "fake news" can be found back in 1894, as political cartoonist Frederick Burr Opper went after yellow journalism in the era of Hearst & Pulitzer.https://publicdomainreview.org/collections/yellow-journalism-the-fake-news-of-the-19th-century/ …

What if the media has become the enemy of the people? Hasn't it turned into operatives of factions and not some free speech platform? Hasn't proof been shown of collision over and over? Do you think the voters don't care about being manipulated with lies? Where is your concern?

Actually true. I'm hoping the system is reformed post trump. But false dichotomy of choice perpetrated by lies shouldn't be the option left over. Think of trump as catalyst for much needed spring cleaning. Feelings can wait.
