That’s imprecise. An NFT is more accurately like you’re allowed to visit a coal plant and sign a piece of coal and post that picture to Instagram before it’s burned to generate heat. The coal is going to be burned anyway, BUT YOU SIGNED YOUR NAME ON IT!

Also, someone could sign your name on a piece of coal, take a picture of that, and collect money from that picture.

The point is you didn’t BUILD the coal plant. But a lot of rich people suddenly LOVE pictures of signed coal! The coal plant will eventually go bankrupt. Why not make money off these signed pictures right now! (Why indeed.)
