View from the bridge of the Nathaniel B Palmer yesterday as we broke through the sea ice barring our way to open water on the Amundsen Sea shelf. Fog meant the choice of route depended a lot on satellite images and radar. nearing ⁦⁩ work area.

Just got my GPS data processed. Discovered Mt Moses is not the highest peak in the Hudson Mountains after all - Siren Rock is 2 metres higher (835 m asl)! Tom and I climbed to the top of both though, so we're all good on that front😉

"Hopefully will help us fill in pieces of the puzzle so that we can more accurately describe what could happen in the future to this glacier and to global sea level,” says . (That's MELT's Aurora Basinski below.) 5/6

Startling new research from confirmed a dire prediction: The water underneath 's is two degrees above the freezing point. How bad is that? 1/6

Nice update by on where the future of your oceanfront property -- meaning the Thwaites invasion () -- stands.

Also got to work with team members Grant & Jim & on and with Grant and on ... small world but so fun to work with all these team members consistently, north and south!

is melting fast—like, really fast—which is not good news for Antarctic ice or for global sea levels. One tool that scientists with are using to study the glacier is a 3.5-meter-long robotic sub called Icefin. 1/4

More news from the other half my project! These ice cores were collected from the holes where we drilled down into the bedrock.

Today I'm on BBC radio (again!) talking about ! I talk about why the work is important for predicting sea level rise, and discuss how geological studies can inform understanding of glacier dynamics. 08:05 minutes in.....

As part of our project we drilled a bunch of shallow ice cores to collect rock samples. The deepest core we saved for , the shallow cores had amazing melt structures in them & near bedrock we saw similar debris that saw under Thwaites

These melt and refreezing features remind me of glass blowing!
    Just cool stuff!
I THINK fractures and melt-pathways that keep refreezing?
Similar to the debris bands that ICEFIN saw under Thwaites Glacier, we had lots of fine grain debris at the ice-bedrock interface!

My expertise is ground-penetrating radar (GPR). For , I was fortunate to survey two locations with a radar: Surrounding Mount Murphy for the GHC project I'm co-PI on & at the grounding zone w/ the MELT team. Psyched about both datasets!

A profile in front of Mount Murphy showing some water at the bed and some pretty impressive englacial features!

Our season is slowly coming to an end, and the whole team is now back in McMurdo. We've been busily sorting/drying our field kit ⛺️, and should be flying ✈️ north within the next week weather permitting 🌤️🌧️
